Happy Cyber Monday!! Last week, my brain was going crazy trying to sort through all the different sales happening over the weekend, and as someone who unfortunately cannot spend lavishly to her heart’s content, I always need to plan accordingly in order to stick within my shopping budgets, and recently, I’ve learned that a good way to keep shopping habits in check is to follow a simple thing called the 3-7-14 rule.
Costume designer Jenn Rogien (of Girls and Orange Is the New Black fame) recently shared this trick that will ensure you never buy something you won’t actually wear. “If you buy something and you haven’t worn it in three days, it’s unlikely you’re going to wear it. If you weren’t that excited to wear it the next day, you weren’t that excited to wear it to begin with,” Rogien explained. “If you haven’t worn it in seven days, you’re definitely not going to wear it, so make sure you return it in fourteen. Get it out of your life within 14 days or you’re never going to return it.” It sounds so simple, yet incredibly fascinating, doesn’t it? Either way, it totally makes sense, so try to keep that in mind when you’re embarking on your next shopping excursion to avoid buyer’s remorse and unnecessary expenses!
