Black with a Splash

Good morning, and happy Monday to you! I haven’t fully completed my Seattle travel post yet, so today I’m quickly sharing an outfit that’s perfect for those days when you just can’t seem to get it together in the mornings. Just remember: When in doubt, wear black. It’s no fuss and forever classic!

Years ago, I used to gravitate towards predominantly black outfits. It was only recently that I started to openly embrace colors into my wardrobe. But even nowadays when I don’t have time to contemplate matching prints and hues with each other, I find myself automatically reverting back to my old (safe) love – black on black. Pairing this casual little black dress with these chunky heeled Chelsea boots (big fan of the snake/suede contrast!) was a no brainer, but to mix it up a little, I injected another one of my old favorite hues – grey – in the form of a crepe vest and textured clutch to anchor together the look. Black on black is universally flattering and leaves minimal room for error, but add a splash of just one more solid color into the mix (note the emphasis on ‘one‘), and you’ve effortlessly upgraded your look into something with a little more nuance. For your consideration, below are a few shopping suggestions for black staple pieces:

Black Mohair Knit Sweater
Black Wool Fedora
Black Midi Bodycon Dress
Black Overlay Tunic
Black Booties

As always, thank you so much for reading! Please continue scrolling to see how I upgraded my own basic black on black look with the simple – yet effective – addition of two classic grey pieces.

Wishing you a great rest of your day!
