Spirit of Summer: Dinner Party Black

DSC09291_2

As we inch our way into summer, we find ourselves facing not only seasonal transitions but also life transitions. Summer may be favored for sunkissed skin, denim cut-offs, beach visits, and blissful relaxation (that is, if summer vacation still exists for you), but the summer season is also a popular transitional time for people, whether it be for new jobs, worldwide travels, family relocations, or new school beginnings.

Every summer, I find that at least one person has moved out – either temporarily or long-term – from my life due to one of the aforementioned reasons. Thank goodness for the power of social media; I can’t imagine how friendships can endure if we were still stuck with the communication methods of the olden days! But even though life brings different opportunities to each of us that may take us away from each other, it’s always fun to gather together one last time for a brilliant going-away dinner party.

Today, British fashion brand River Island and I embrace this summer story of mine and bring you inspiration for finding the perfect outfit for this first segment of River Island x Jayeeaych’s #SpiritofSummer campaign. When it comes to night-time events, I love going for an all-black look. With black on black comes an immeasurable level of confidence fused together by edgy elegance and understated sexiness. I love this maxi skirt from River Island – the flowy chiffon split panels put a modern sultry spin on the classic maxi, striking the perfect balance between avant-garde and conventional, and downplayed with a graphic tee but elevated by caged stiletto heels, it makes for the perfect dinner look that oozes with contemporary edge. Below, I’ve picked out a couple more alluring pieces from River Island that would turn up the heat at the next going-away party you attend this summer.

Saying good-bye doesn’t have to be hard, especially if you’re sending off a good friend with an unforgettable dinner party filled with great company, memorable quotes and laughter, dapper outfits, and, of course, good food. “The best thing about a picture is that it never changes, even when the people in it do.”
